About me:
When it comes to choosing a restaurant, I always want a second opinion, so Yelp used to be a perfect solution (even though I never thought I would post my own reviews). Although their ranking system seemed overly manipulated, Yelp was a convenient source for restaurant info, so I constantly referenced it. But when highly rated restaurants on the site began to fall flat, I was inclined to set the record straight. Over 50 yelp reviews later, I had had enough and decided to create The Confoodant, a place where a network of trusted food enthusiasts could grow and post their opinions.
Is it just a blog?
Confoodant.com is still in development, but the network of confoodants has already begun to grow and are invited to post their reviews on The Confoodant blog until the real website is up and running. The blog doesn't provide the features that the full site will, but just think of it as a temporary home to start sharing restaurant tips with people you trust (and who trust you).

LOVED Falai. Went in the fall and sat at a table out back in their open air patio situation. It was really lovely. We ordered the Thyme Papperdelle, which was seriously heavenly. The Gnudi was great too. Go!
I opted for the eight course tasting menu, which was whimsically described. The food was just OK. In general, the flavors were mismatched and many dishes lacked a neccesary acid to cut through them. The spinach and ricotta gnudi was gummy and boring. The profiteroles for dessert did not taste very fresh, though the filling was light and complex. The risotto with sweetbreads and porcini mushrooms was surprisingly not enjoyable. I would not call any of this food bad, but based on the fact that two of us having one glass of wine each spent close to $300, I cannot recommend it.
Really liked and would definitely recommend Falai; thought it was generally well-executed and very inventive italian. While the room is somewhat small, I liked the stark white decor. Started with excellent appetizer of beef tongue, chickpea mousse, spicy tomato jam and quinoa soufflé - extremely light and unctuous at the same time. After, had the caramelle, which was a whole-wheat pasta stuffed with mussels - pasta was appropriately cooked, and the filling added a wonderful brininess. I thought overall, the first two courses out-shined the main dish - in this case, the rabbit. While I liked the plating and composition (different parts of the rabbit served besides the loin - liver, ribs, leg for example)I found it somewhat bland and not very flavorful. For the dessert, shared the souffle, which was excellent - what really set it apart was the black truffle gelato, which had amazing richness and depth of flavor (really tasted like black truffles). Overall, found Falai a great change of pace from most of NY's other italian offerings. Have added it with Perbacco as my go-to italian spots when I'm seeking something outside the norm, but not as fancy as Alto.
Definitely an attractive, higher-end restaurant with a very sophisticated menu--although I didn't love anything I ordered. Favorite things were the pastas, especially the pappardelle and ravioli stuffed with whole mussels.
Go for the ambiance and sophistication; don't expect the food to blow you away.
Also tried two white wines by the glass and both were shockingly one dimensional and lacked real flavor/aroma.
I would take Perbacco over this any day.
There is outdoor seating in the back, but with only five tables, it's extremely quiet out there. Great for people who hate noisy restaurants, but it was a little awkwardly silent for my taste.
