About me:
When it comes to choosing a restaurant, I always want a second opinion, so Yelp used to be a perfect solution (even though I never thought I would post my own reviews). Although their ranking system seemed overly manipulated, Yelp was a convenient source for restaurant info, so I constantly referenced it. But when highly rated restaurants on the site began to fall flat, I was inclined to set the record straight. Over 50 yelp reviews later, I had had enough and decided to create The Confoodant, a place where a network of trusted food enthusiasts could grow and post their opinions.
Is it just a blog?
Confoodant.com is still in development, but the network of confoodants has already begun to grow and are invited to post their reviews on The Confoodant blog until the real website is up and running. The blog doesn't provide the features that the full site will, but just think of it as a temporary home to start sharing restaurant tips with people you trust (and who trust you).
1 Reviews:
Often overlooked as either stodgy or too loud (those tiled floors!), Da Umberto is a continuous treat. It is Old World Italian cuisine masterfully prepared without too much unnecessary New Age fiddling. The façade is unremarkable and the space inside while not grand is well-appointed with mirrors and tiled floors and the lighting is usually just right. The bar is small and a bit in the way of the front door as many Italian restaurants seem to favor, but the bartenders are good and the martinis are better. Aside from the top-notch dishes, the waitstaff at Da Umberto shines. Just listening to the specials is a treat and a testament to their ability with the list often outdoing the main menu. It is also possible to order off the menu altogether (veal parm)—the staff is there to please and the kitchen is more than happy to make what you want and to make it well. Sit in the back room and watch the chefs at work. It makes a big difference that the pasta is homemade and cooked to perfection, but each dish is generous and hearty. While it may be boisterous for a date spot, Da Umberto is great for a group ad the waiters will play for the crowd.
