As a regular at Kefi, I had high hopes for Mia Dona, but was sorely disappointed. Although the service was excellent and the food extremely thoughtful, like a head of roasted garlic to smear on fresh bread and meatloaf stuffed with a perfectly poached egg, I wouldn't go back. The grilled octopus with salty olives was a surprising, creatively prepared treat as well as the sheep's milk ricotta dumplings known as gnudi, but nothing was stunning. For the mains, the potential flavors of the cod were masked by extremely briny clams and while the meatloaf, their signature dish and the winner of the night, was like eating a wonderful little present, it could have been more delicious.
Overall, everything was heavily salted, maybe too much so. And the chocolate desert, which we were told was the best on the menu was rather mundane.
Mia Dona tries hard to please, but misses.
