I think it's better than Allen & Delancy, but some of the dishes value complexity over flavor. Maybe this is a problem with New American cuisine in general? After my meal, I don't want to be evaluating like a food critic, I want to be in gastronomic ecstasy. Good cooking should elevate food, not weigh it down with technique.
The food at Dovetail does not disappoint. Every dish that was brought to the table was well thought out and perfect. My only hesitation is the boring, old crowd that fills the restaurant (an inevitable result of the UWS location). Go on a Sunday night for the $38 three course prix fixe dinner.
